The 2026 Emergency Watchlist: 3 Crises That Demand Action
Sudan
A brutal civil war has killed over 150,000 people and triggered one of the largest hunger crises in history. Nearly half the population—over 19 million people—faces severe food insecurity, with famine spreading across the country. The IRC is on the ground in six states, providing emergency health care, nutrition treatment, and clean water to families caught in the crisis.
Occupied Palestinian territory (oPt):
More than two years of conflict have devastated Gaza, where over 70,000 people have been killed and 90% of the population has been displaced. Famine conditions have taken hold, with at least 130,000 children under five acutely malnourished. The IRC and our partners are delivering clean water, malnutrition treatment, and protection services to families facing unimaginable hardship.
South Sudan
South Sudan faces the growing risk of renewed civil war as a fragile peace agreement collapses. The war in neighboring Sudan has disrupted vital oil exports that fund 90% of government income, while 28,000 people face catastrophic hunger and daily risk of starvation. The IRC reaches over one million people with health care, protection, and economic support.
